"Wicked Tuna" (Sun., 10 p.m. ET on National Geographic) wrapped its first season with a whopper. More specifically, the crew managed to capture a tuna fish that tipped the scales at 1,030 pounds. That was easily one of the most impressive fish caught by the crew, as evidenced by their excitement upon seeing it rise out of the water.
"That’s what it’s all about," one said. "That’s why I ... love tuna fishing."
And it's those kinds of catches that fans watching the show want to see. If it's not going to be the treacherous waters seen on shows like "Deadliest Catch," then it needs to be something impressive to behold, and a 1,000+ pound tuna fish certainly fits the bill. Perhaps that's why this catch was saved for the season finale.
Should the show come back for a second season, they'll simply have to try and outdo themselves. Maybe topple that world record 1,496-pound bluefin tuna fish caught in 1979, according to BigMarineFish.com.
