Some of the greatest storytellers have been country music artists. Think about Patsy Cline's "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces," or Hank Williams' "Your Cheating Heart," and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Or how about the countless songs by Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, just to name a few?
The genre has had a profound influence on other artists. As Bob Dylan once said, "I started writing songs after I heard Hank Williams." Johnny Cash saw country music as a way to express fundamental feelings: "Love and hate and death and dying. Mama, apple pie, and the whole thing. It covers a lot of territory, country music does," said the country music legend.
But sometimes a country song can be kinda silly, quirky, or just downright head-scratching. Where else can you find titles like "Honky Tonk, Badonkadonk," "You Can't Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd," "Mississippi Squirrel Revival," "I've Got Tears in My Ears From Lying on My Back Crying Over You," "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose," or "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"?
So in honor of the recent "National Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day" (really!) we just had to share some of our favorite quirky song titles. Check out our favorites in Parade.
