A-Sides with Jon Chattman: "Silhouettes" of Colony House, Jillian Edwards "Daydreams;" "Finally" It's Julian Fleisher

Nashville's Jillian Edwards has opened for for a variety of artists from The Civil Wars to Ben Rector. Well, expect her to headline sooner than later. The singer/songwriter, who's originally from Dallas, has been melting ears and hearts (not literally - that would be frightening) since 2009 when she dropped her Galaxies & Such EP. It's been delightfully more of the same since. Two years after her debut, Headfirst reached #1 on singer-songwriter charts and her latest release feels like (and is called) a Daydream. Yep, it feels as good as a summer breeze. Anyway, the artist recently stopped by Primary Wave Music in New York City, and recorded an A-Sides session in its "Listening Room." After performing a pair of songs, Edwards discussed her career thus far, which includes a side project called The Inlaws with husband Will Chapman and brother-in-law Caleb Chapman of the band Colony House. Speaking of which, watch Colony House's A-Sides session later this week! Anywho, watch and listen on below.

Interview

For our next artist, we go from a Jillian to a Julian. Julian Fleisher is a real Renaissance Man. In addition to finishing up his album Finally, which is sort of the antithesis of his jazzy Rather Big album. Additionally, and getting to that Renaissance part, Fleisher has composed music for Broadway, produced Ana Gasteyer's album, and starred in indie-rock Stephin (Magnetic Fields) Merritt's

"musicalization" of Neil Gaiman's Coraline for MCC at the Lucille Lortelle Theater in NYC. If that weren't enough he also produced albums for Kiki & Herb. Sigh. All I do is blog and write and write and blog. Anyway, the talented artist filmed an A-Sides recently. Watch it below, and thank me later. (Videos edited by Matthew Moody.)

A-Sides "Delve Into Twelve" Countdown

Each week A-Sides unleashes its Top 12 tracks of the week AKA the "Delve Into Twelve"based on the following contributing factors: songs I'm playing out that particular week NO MATTER WHEN THEY WERE RELEASED (think overlooked songs, unreleased tracks, and old favorites), songs various publicists are trying to get me to listen to that I did and dug a bunch, posts and trends I've noticed on my friends' Facebook walls, and -- most importantly -- the songs my two-year-old son gravitates toward by stomping his feet in approval. Yeah, you read that right. This weeks follows below (LW= last week's rank).

12. "Black Sheep" (retro cut) - Metric

11. "Beware The Dog" (LW-11) - The Griswolds

10. "Another's Arms" (LW-11) - Coldplay

8. "Overdose" (LW-10) - Little Daylight

7. "I'm Only Joking" (LW-5) - Kongos

About A-Sides Music

Jon Chattman's "A-Sides Music" series was established in August 2011 and usually features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, I'm hoping this is refreshing. Artists have included: fun, Courtney Love, Air Supply, Birdy, Charli XCX, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Pharrell Williams, American Authors, Imagine Dragons, Gary Clark Jr., and more! A-Sides theme written and performed by Blondfire.
