Mira Sorvino Reveals The Story Behind That Infamous 'Romy And Michele' Dance Scene

Seventeen years after the cult classic “Romy and Michele’s High School” reunion hit theaters, we finally know how the film's indisputable standout scene came to be.

Mira Sorvino joined HuffPost Live and revealed the backstory behind the hilarious interpretive dance she and Lisa Kudrow performed at Romy and Michele's reunion.

“We designed the dance in mind for comedy and so everybody took what they could do and then sort of tweaked it towards being funny,” she told host Ricky Camilleri. “So I had done a lot of ballet as a kid, so we put some ballet moves in there, but then I would do dismounts, like a gymnast.”

Although the dance was choreographed and rehearsed for two weeks before it was filmed, the cast added a bit of their own flair to perfect the scene.

“I started doing the Snoopy dance at one point ... that happens at one point in the dance,” she said. “It just is throwing stuff in there just to make it this gleeful, crazy thing.”

Sorvino also threw down her support for a sequel of the film and explained why the movie’s second coming isn’t in the works quite yet.

“We’ve been dying to do it for years,” said the Oscar-winning actress. “It’s not up to me. ... We can’t do a Kickstarter because we don't have the rights.”

But she reassured fans that if they show enough support for the film, Romy and Michele just might grace the big screen once again.
