On March 21, 2006, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey posted the world's first Tweet: "just setting up my twttr." The company's mission? To give anyone who wanted the power to share thoughts, stories, and information in an instant, without any barriers. You just had to do it in 140 packed characters. And many were up to the challenge. According to Twitter, at last count, the site has 271 million active users. 500 million Tweets are sent every day, in more than 35 languages.
Even though a 140-character limit may seem pretty tight, many celebrities (even unexpected ones) have become craftily hilarious with their Tweets.Take Anna Kendrick who writes things like, "When I misspell a word so badly that there are no replacement suggestions the sense of shame follows me all day." She also Tweeted, "When my nails get really long I love running them through a scruffy beard. (Must get manicure soon... and wax my face)" And then there was the time she wrote, "Can we drop the pretense of "President's Day" and just call it "I needed a long weekend because Valentine's Day is garbage".
In haiku fashion, they artfully offer a unique snapshot of the inner workings of their minds and lives. For more memorable celebrity Tweets, check out this Parade story. They may inspire you to up your Tweet game a notch or two (or five).
