A new web series looks at what life is like for an undocumented teenager in America.
"Annie Undocumented" is the story of a teenage girl, played by Nikki SooHoo and based on the real-life experiences of writer Elaine Low, who goes to get her driver's license and discovers she's living undocumented in the U.S.
Director Daniel Hsia told NBC News the show is "inspired by the anxieties and dilemmas that Elaine and other undocumented youth face every single day.”
“Everyone knows how tough it is to be a teenager…Now just imagine if you were also undocumented and had to keep that a secret for fear of getting your entire family kicked out of the country," Hsia said.
Immigration reform hasn't gained much traction in Washington. Earlier this month, President Barack Obama delayed any executive action on immigration until after the midterm elections this November. Democrats responded by urging Obama to meet with undocumented immigrants who are affected by the U.S.'s current deportation policies.
