Corrected Nielsen Data Puts NBC's 'Nightly News' Back On Top

Revised Nielsen numbers released Tuesday show that NBC's "Nightly News with Brian Williams" was in fact No. 1 in total viewers for the week of September 29, 2014. ABC's "World News" remains No. 1 in the 25-54 age demo.

The new data reaffirms "Nightly News" as the top broadcast in total viewers and continues its weekly winning streak for 265 consecutive weeks, according to NBC News.

A spokesperson from NBC News commented on the new ratings in an email to The Huffington Post Tuesday:

“We are pleased that the corrected numbers confirm that NBC Nightly News is the #1 news broadcast in America, and has been for the last 265 weeks," the spokesperson said. "We remain, first and foremost, committed to our viewers and bringing them a broadcast with credible, authoritative news they can trust.”

More from the Associated Press:

NEW YORK (AP) — The Nielsen company says ABC's evening newscast did not break a 263-week winning streak by its rivals at NBC, which had been reported last week.

News ratings for the week beginning Sept. 29 were affected by a software error that created miscalculations of television viewership dating back to last March. Industry officials said the error meant ABC's viewership was consistently over-estimated.

Nielsen had said last week that ABC's "World News Tonight" had averaged 8.42 million viewers for the affected week to 8.25 million for NBC's "Nightly News." NBC hadn't lost a week since 2009.

But in its review, Nielsen found that NBC actually won the week by 170,000 viewers.
