John Legend Defends Kanye After Grammys Stunt

John Legend is part of #TeamKanye.

Legend told Us Weekly that he thought West's near recreation of the rapper's infamous "Imma let you finish" moment following Beck's Album of the Year win over Beyoncé was "funny."

"I looked at it as just a funny thing that people were going to talk about," Legend, who was seated behind West at the Grammys, told the magazine. "It didn't hurt anybody. Anybody who's upset just needs to relax."

Legend's remarks only focus on what most first thought was just West poking fun at his previous interruption of Taylor Swift's 2009 VMA acceptance speech, not the comments he made to E! after the awards.

"Beck needs to respect artistry, and he should have given his award to Beyoncé," West told the network, before later adding: "I'm not going to do nothing that would put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But you all knew what it meant when ‘Ye walked on that stage."

And while Legend posed for a photo with a shocked look on his face that Kim Kardashian captioned, "This is the Beck won that award face?!?!?!" the 36-year-old had only good things to say about the "Morning Phase" singer.

"Beck won his award fair and square," Legend told Us. "Beck is super talented and I have several of his albums and I've listened to him for a long time. I think people were surprised that he won but that doesn't mean he's not deserving, that just means people thought other people were going to win too."

Since West first expressed his disappointment in Beyoncé's loss on Sunday night, he went on to tell a TMZ cameraman, "Come on man, I love Beck, but he ain't have album of the year."

Beck responded to West's comments, telling Us Weekly after the awards show, "You can't please everybody, man. I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
