Day For Night: Director Nicole Holofcener

Welcome to the first installment of the "Day for Night" series of filmmaker and cast conversations. Private screenings of upcoming films take place in New York and Los Angeles on a regular basis, after which the people who made them come and talk to the audience of other writers, directors and actors. I am frequently asked to moderate these discussions so I decided to start recording them, and to make them available a wider audience here on The Huffington Post.

As the series develops, viewers will be able to submit questions for the filmmakers and cast, and have opportunities to attend them. For today, however, I am just going to include a few clips from a recent conversation with writer/director Nicole Holofcener (Walking and Talking, Lovely & Amazing, Friends with Money, Please Give) about working with James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus on her new film, Enough Said.

If you are only familiar with Gandolfini from The Sopranos, there's much to appreciate in the work he does here, and more reason to selfishly mourn his recent passing. Louis-Dreyfus is a master of the sit-com form but also shows her ability to carry a romantic lead through a full narrative arc, which is a whole other skill set.

Here Holofcener talks about working with both, what they each bring to the table as actors, and the perhaps unlikely chemistry they sparked together. More extended conversations will follow this awards season, so follow us on Twitter to be alerted when they post.

Thank you for joining us. I'm looking forward to the events to come. Stay tuned!
