Filmmaker Ron Howard reteams with his Frost/Nixon screenwriter Peter Morgan on the Formula One racing film Rush. The film tells the true story of the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda and is as much a character piece as it is an action-packed racing movie.
Aaron Fink, Sean Wright and myself reviewed the film for the PBS' series Just Seen It. Fink felt the first 45 minutes or so of the film were a little slow, but understood that this was because the table was being set for the "big accident." I actually appreciated the pace and liked how the film took it's time because by the time the incident occurs, we know everything about these characters and can understand and appreciate how they are affected by the consequences.
We all agreed the Liam Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Lauda were phenomenal, although the female characters, particularly Olivia Wilde, didn't have much to do. Wright particularly enjoyed the racing sequences and commended Howard for making each one distinct and unique.
