Gay U.S. Army ranger Ken Yasger is going to the Ranger Ball next month and he has only one wish -- that Katy Perry would agree to be his date to the affair.
Yasger tells the pop superstar that he is the first openly gay ranger in his unit, and her music -- particularly "Wide Awake" -- is what helped him get through the coming out experience.
"Nobody else, no other celebrity -- their music doesn't speak to me in the way your music does," he says in the clip.
Yasger also jokes that his buddies made fun of him because he would listen to Perry's music constantly, read two books about her, and would blast her hits while everyone in the unit worked out together.
He finishes the video with quite a declaration:
"Katherine Elizabeth Hudson, I would like to formally invite you to the Ranger Ball, again, Oct. 10, 2013. Katy Perry, will you please go to the Ranger Ball with me?"
If she accepts, Perry will follow in the footsteps of Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, both of whom attended Marine Corps balls after being approached via successful YouTube video campaigns. Even "Golden Girl" Betty White snagged a Marine Corps ball invite (and a rose!) from Sgt. Ray Lewis.
