10 Vintage Hollywood Photos Will Transport You To The Golden Age Of Glamour

We think we know glamour these days, but we have no idea. Before the days of Photoshop and air brushing, photographers captured the glamour of their celebrity subjects with little more than a keen eye, a trusty camera, and a reverence for the celebrity's own magnetic presence.

Such is evident in photographer Robert Cumming's brilliant "Red Carpet" celebrity series, an upcoming exhibit at Janet Bordon, Inc. in New York City. There's a reason the 1970s are often referred to as the "Golden Age of Cinema," and you could just as easily say they were the golden age of glamour, as well.

Just take a look at these gorgeous shots, and see if you don't agree:

Cumming began his career shooting mobile homes, cactus trees, and other quotidian Southern California scenes, doing anything he could to get closer to Hollywood. Says Cumming in a statement about the exhibit, "By devious means over the next few years [after coming to California], I managed to get a foot in that door, eventually getting that same foot on the red carpet, concluding with two Golden Globes and two Academy Award ceremonies."
