16 Uses Of Time Travel That Will Probably Just Make You Want To Watch 'Back To The Future'

Time travel is a tricky thing. It's a go-to plot device for movies that want to throw anachronistic conceits into a story set in the present day ... or set in the past ... or in the future. Point being, it's used a lot. Sometimes it's clever ("Midnight in Paris," "Back to the Future"); other times it's "Click."

The latest movie to adopt this fickle ploy is "About Time," a rom-com from the mind of Richard Curtis ("Love Actually," "Four Weddings and a Funeral"). Starring Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson, "About Time" centers on Tim Luke, who's informed on his 21st birthday that men in his family are capable of traveling back and forth between moments in their lives.

Critics are divided on the results, so where does the movie sit on our Time Travel Matrix? We've assessed the quality of 16 time-travel flicks, relative to where their respective characters venture. See our findings below, and be sure to weigh in on which movies you think navigate the trope best.
